And Just Like That: It’s Over

The saga has come to an end. No more worrying what cards the other side holds. No more mulling over silence. It’s clear as day: she’s not interested.

The revelation came in the form of a social media unfollow, paired with the doubly lethal “delete from your followers”. Out of sight, out of mind. I have been barred from the information bubble that crowds her daily mental space of scrolling names and images. The specific reason remains unknown.

Obviously, that’s cowardice. Or as an ex-lover once quipped “a pussy move”. Feelings should be held to a higher standard, especially when they involve two people. It used to be common courtesy to simply decline an invitation, or the more cordial penning of a goodbye message. Goodbye messages are infused with goodwill. But these modern breakup tactics are surreptitious, avoiding confrontation.

And I pegged her as a literary soul, delicate and sensitive to meaning. Why so rude, and impersonal? A lack of words is never eloquent.

I shall strive to be present, to reveal my soul, to each and every one. While others hide, I shall perk up, and make myself noticeable. I shall dance.

Love is luck and chance. I’ll keep playing until I strike gold. It’s almost been half a lifetime.
